Flea
Facts 2008 was the worst year of flea infestation we have seen in 15 years. Will our cold, awful winter beat this flea epidemic? Don't count on it! The flea is a hardy insect with a lifespan of six to twelve months. During this time, a pair of fleas could produce millions of offspring. Fleas have survived millions of years in a variety of environments. Some fleas can leap 15 to 36 inches (equivalent to a woman jumping over the Washington Monument). Fleas live on pets, mammals, carpets, furniture, and in your car. 5-percent will be found on pets, 10-percent in flea cocoons in the carpet, 35-percent flea larvae and 50-percent in flea eggs, again in carpet. It is an old wives' tale that fleas are only on your pets. They just feed from your pets. Whether or not you actually see fleas on your pet, they may be there. Scratching, scabs and dark specs (aka "flea dirt") found on the skin can be signs that your pet has become the unwitting host for a family of fleas. Fleas can carry many diseases and allergies for both you and your pet. Not to worry, however, there are many solutions to get rid of fleas. But, remember, if only 5-percent of the fleas are on your pet, you also must treat the areas in your home and car. Adult fleas, pupae, larvae and eggs -- fleas at all stages -- should be killed to rid your ouse of them completely. Should I treat my pets this spring? YES!! Talk with our knowledgeable staff to discuss the best treatment for your pet and your family. Have a pest-free summer!
